Mailbox Monday, April 20th

Mailbox Monday is a weekly event hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page. If you want to join in, just go there.

This week was eventful for my mailbox.

For three of the books I can blame university. They're all for a class on "What happened to the American Dream? Pastoral in Literature and Fiction":

1) Karen Tei Yamashita: Tropic Of Orange
2) Cormac McCarthy: The Road
3) Philip Roth: American Pastoral

Then, I am incredibly grateful to Francesca. I won a book from her and it arrived in the mail:

4) Lernkrimi Italienisch: Dottor Bianchis letzter Wille (Dottor Bianchi's Last Will)
This is a language learning mystery with exercises in each chapter. Thank you so much, Francesca!

Also, I had a book from a Virtual Bookcrossing Book Box in the mail:

5) Paul Robertson: Road To Nowhere

And the last book I got for me, and just for me LOL:

6) Oscar Wilde: An Ideal Husband

And what did you have in your mailbox?

  4. Julie, I also think they're interesting. Before I got the books I only knew of two of the books. I heard of Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband and just had to get it. And the book Francesca sent me is one I knew but somehow I never got around to buying it. And now I don't have to anymore :-)

  12. Nice mailbox stuff! The Road is on my agenda soon too--been putting it off a bit as I think I need to be in the right mood for it.
    Have a happy week--

  13. Bonnie, I'll get to Tropic Of Orange rather soon, I think. I'm curious what the book will be like!

    Teddyree: Thanks a lot!

Marie: My pleasure :-) And thanks!

Anna, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed The Road. I have to read it in May, I think. Do you have a review about it?

Kim, maybe we'll manage to read i around the same time. Once you've written a review, let me know! I'll link to it then. No chance for me to put it off, I'm afraid. And that for a mood reader like myself. Oy!

  14. The Tropic of Orange looks intriguing to me and I love the cover for An Ideal Husband (I also like Oscar Wilde and this particular book as well ::grin::). Enjoy your reading.

  15. Sounds like some heavy reading - though I absolutely loved The Road!

  16. Kristen, I also love the cover of An Ideal Husband. I could have gotten a different copy for a few cents less, but in the end I didn't want to save those few cents for an uglier cover ;-) As for Tropic Of Orange, I'll be curious to read it. I never even heard about the author!

Kristi, it sure is. But then, half the books are for university and I doubt they want us to read fluff :-) At least Oscar Wilde always is good for a laugh, that's why I had to get this book on top of the others.

  18. bermudaonion, that review should be up sooner rather than later :-)

  19. The Road was one of my favorite reads a year or so ago. I read it before I blogged, so I don't have my review handy. :(

  20. I'm glad you liked it! Didn't know it was on your wishlist, I actually didn't know the book at all -- I was looking for something else, found this, and thought it would be a good choice for you! Well, enjoy!

  21. Cathy, glad to hear it was one of your favorite reads the year you read it :-)

Francesca: I'm absolutely happy about the book! It is indeed a great choice and I can't wait to read it - I have to read the books for my classes first, though *sigh*

  22. I love Oscar Wilde! I remember reading An Ideal Husband on a train in NYC, going back and forth between my friend's house and the city, before he moved into the city. Love the most recent film version of it as well.

  23. Carl: I also looove Oscar Wilde!
